The Broughton Letters 1837-1890
Letter 20: 22nd October 1874 - from Elizabeth Burton

Oct 22nd 1874

My Dear Aunt

For the first time in my life I now have the pleasure of writing a few lines to you. I am changing my situation I think my Mother has told you that I have been living at Cranmer Hall. I lived there 8 years. I am now going rather far from home about 200 miles, the family name is Wingfield at Fickencote Hall, near Stamford, in the county of Rutland. I am expecting to leave home on the 2nd of November. I have had a few weeks off for I have not been very strong lately, but I am now quite well. I thank God for indeed good health is our greatest temporary blessing. I have been staying with Aunt Hannah the last 3 weeks, they have a very nice little place at Dunham, Aunt and Uncle are quite well, Aunt is going to have her photo taken as soon as she can that she may have one to send you. I think it will not be quite yet for the weather is very unfavourable in winter. Now Dear Aunt I think I must conclude I hope you and Uncle and all my cousins are in good health please give my love to all of them I am your affectionate niece Elizabeth Burton
