HORWICH LOCOMOTIVE WORKS 1920
My grandfather, Ralph Ainscough, worked in the locomotive works at Horwich, near Bolton, from 1912 to his retirement in 1965. He was a fitter in the works. I remember being taken round the works by him when I was a small boy in the late1940s. Although more than sixty years had gone by since this photograph was taken, the scene was not markedly different, with all sorts of banging and ringing going on as the men manouevred the huge wheels around.
