ANZAC COVE 1915

My grandfather, Charles Broughton, joined the RAMC in 1914 at the age of 36. After sailing from Liverpool to Mudros in 1915 on the HMHS Britannic, he served at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli. This was one of the fiercest and bloodiest campaigns of the first world war, with hundreds of Australian, New Zealand and British troops losing their lives under Turkish fire as they tried to land on the beaches. Charles Broughton survived to serve in the Middle East and in India before coming home in 1918.
