Richard Wilcock was born in Preston in 1862 and married Elizabeth Ainscough (1862), daughter of James Ainscough (1836) sometime before 1881. In 1881 he was living with his widowed mother-in-law at 65 Ashmoor Street in Preston and working as a house joiner. He was not at Ashmoor Street in the 1891 census.
