Notes for James Prior Eke
James Eke was born in Foulsham in 1838 and was the son of Joseph Eke (1811) and Charlotte. In 1841 he was living in Bintree Road, Foulsham. In 1851 he was living in Foulsham and working as an agricultural servant. In 1861 he was working as an agricultural labourer and living in the household of Edward Holsey – probably the father-in-law of his younger sister Harriet. He married Lydia Waterson in 1864. He was a volunteer corporal in the East Norfolk Militia in Gorleston, Yarmouth, in 1871. Lydia died in 1877 and he married Sarah Ann Harper in 1878. From 1881 to 1901 he was living in Hindolveston and working as an agricultural labourer.
