Hannah Purdy was the daughter of Robert Purdy (1829) and Ann Maidstone, and was christened in Burnham Westgate on 4th August 1867. In 1871 she was living in Burnham Sutton. In 1881 she was working as a cotton weaver and was living with her parents in Fern Hill Terrace, Newchurch, Lancs. She married William Thomas Whittam in 1888. In 1891 she was working as a dressmaker and was living at 22 Brunswick Terrace in the Spotland area of Bacup. In 1901 she was living at 30 Far Home Road, Bacup.
