John Pomfrey was born around 1891 in Colney, Herts and was the son of Charles Pomfrey (1862) and Mary Allison. In 1901 he was living at the forge in London Colney, Shenley, Herts. He was living at the forge in 1911 and working as a blacksmith. He married a woman called Gray in St. Albans in 1915.
