Mary Pomfrey was born in 1864 in Hingham and was the daughter of Charles Pomfrey (1828) and Mary Bayes. In 1871 she moved with her mother and brother Charles to the home of her uncle in London Colney. In 1881 she was working as a dressmaker and was living at the Smith's Shop, Shenley, Herts at the forge owned by her uncle, John Bayes. She married a tea merchant called William Kingham Dyson in St Paul's church, St. Pancras, on 21st August, 1889. In 1891 she was living at 49 Market Square, Aylesbury.
