In 1881 he was living at 6 Neals Cottages, Whitsed Street, Peterborough. In 1891 he was living at 10 Bedford Street, Peterborough and working as a pork butcher. In 1892 he married a German woman called Rosina Retz in Peterborough. In 1901 he was working as a pork butcher in Wellingborough and living at 41 Midland Road.
