Hannah Eke was born in Saxthorpe in 1842 and was the daughter of John Eke (1820) and Martha Cottrill. In 1851 she was living in Corpusty. In 1861 she was working as a housemaid in the household of widowed farmer William Matthews in Green Hill, Wormegay.
