James Garrould was born in 1696 in Spexhall and was the son of James Garrould (1652) and Elizabeth. He was a farmer and married a woman called Elizabeth. He died in 1767. James and Elizabeth had at least nine children: James (1724), Elizabeth (1727), Sarah (1728), Hannah (1730), James (1734), Susan (1736), James (1737), Lydia (1739) and Catherine (1742).
