Walter Broughton was born in North Walsham in 1877 and was the son of Robert Broughton (1832) and Phebe Woodhouse. In 1881 he was living at White Horse Common, North Walsham. In 1891 he was living with his widowed mother in Spa Common, North Walsham. He married Rachel Elizabeth Daynes in Smallburgh RD in 1897. By 1901 he was working as a gardener "not Domestic" in North Walsham. In 1911 he was working as a gardener and living in Hall Lane, North Walsham.
