Alice Winward was born in Westhoughton in 1893 and was the daughter of John Winward (1848) and Ann Mangnall. In 1901 she was aged 8 and was living at 4 Derwent Road, Bolton. In 1911 she was living at 7 Blackwood Street, Great Lever, Bolton, and working as a weaver in a cotton mill. She probably married Jonathan Mitton in the Bolton RD in 1915.
