Sarah Bellingall was born in 1867 in Manchester and was the daughter of John Bellingall (1839) and Ruth Rebecca Edwards. In 1871 she was living at 67 Junction Street, New Cross, Manchester. In 1881 she was an errand girl and living at 37 Chatsworth Street in the Beswick district of Manchester.
