Alice Winward was born in 1843 in Westhoughton and was the daughter of James Winward (1822) and Mary Taylor. In 1851 she was living at Caldwell Cottages, Westhoughton. In 1861 she was aged 18, was working as a silk weaver and was living in Chapel Lane, Westhoughton. She married a coal miner called James Barton in 1867. In 1881 she was aged 38 and living at 206 Church Street, Westhoughton. She was present at the death of Mary Taylor in 1888. In 1891 she was still living at 206 Church Street. In 1901 she was living st 146 Church Street. She was widowed in 1905 and in 1911 was still living at 146 Church Street. She died in the Bolton RD in 1918.
