William Ainscough was born around 1877 in Blackrod and was the son of William Ainscough (b. 1845) and Jane. In 1881 he was aged 4 and was living in Little Scotland, Blackrod. In 1891 he was aged 14, was working as a drawer in a mine and was living at 23 Hill Lane, Blackrod. In 1901 he was aged 24 and was living at 26 Hill Lane, Blackrod.
