Ralph Ainscough was the son of William Ainscough (b. 1845) and Jane. In 1891 he was aged 1 and was living at 23 Hill Lane, Blackrod. In 1901 he was aged 11 and living at 26 Hill Lane, Blackrod. He married Mary Elizabeth Churchill in the Wigan district in 1909 and, in 1911, was living at 19 Chapel Street in Aspull and working as a coal miner.
